It's probably there just to make sure the phone doesn't overheat and they're trying to spin it into a selling point to increase the price of the phone
Sensors are usually already present alongside chips and controllers in modern phones and PCs for that very purpose, the temperature sensor on the Pixel 8 has nothing to do with that.
There are temperature sensors inside every device already.
There are already temperature sensors in modern phones. The new sensor is for measuring external heat.
