A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.

I'm really in the mood for a game like Shovel Knight after listening to some chiptune tracks the other day. Something fair, but challenging would be ideal. Must have a good soundtrack!

Along these lines I've already played:

  • Shovel Knight
  • Celeste
  • The Messenger
  • Hollow Knight (well, in terms of the difficulty not the music)

Does anyone know of any I've missed? They don't necessarily have to be modern indie games - old NES/SNES games for example. SMB3 and SMW are classics.

People already mentioned VVVVVV here, so I'll go with the classics angle: the Donkey Kong Country series has phenomenal music and super tight platforming. Difficulty is a bit on the low side compared to something like Celeste, but there's absolutely a mastery curve.

This includes Returns for Wii/3DS and Tropical Freeze for Wii U/Switch.
