The problem is lemmy still caches the image itself instead of showing the actual image, so in the default UI it's essentially the same as uploading it to the server unless you click on the imgur link.
It's pretty annoying at times that it can't be disabled since it also screws with all my gifs
Hot linking gifs works though?
It's the only thing keeping me sane
