People unfortunately like to have someone to follow and be subservient to
I'd argue that it's less that people like to be subservient, and more that some people just can't help but put all their energy into putting other people beneath them
Following someone else's instructions can save time and effort, but this is only beneficial if the "followers" are also actively investing time and effort in something worthwhile.
