So as the title mentions, I'm wondering how much is too much?

I am currently using Brave with the setting to:

  • Aggressively block trackers & ads
  • Only connect with HTTPS
  • Block fingerprinting
  • Block cross-site cookies

In addition to that, I have installed the following extensions:

  • uBlock Origin
  • Ghostery
  • Decentraleyes
  • DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials

So my question is: Is this overkill? If so, what should/could be removed that may be redundant? I want as much coverage as possible, but not have things bloated.

I don't get the point that you are trying to make

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That part is clear. You're presumably concerned about privacy based on your participation here, but not about the people responsible for making privacy an issue of concern in the first place. You've artificially constrained politics to "voting", but voting is only a tiny portion of politics, and when it comes to non-government entities one that's not useful. Using software or a platform is inherently political, and when someone is profiting from that and working to chip away your rights it becomes important.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yes that's the point. I couldn't care less about the politics involved, as long as the product is FOSS.

You like to attach "politics" to anything, because that's what USA television has warped your mind into.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

lol. That's the weirdest mind-warping logic that you need to use to make that statement make sense.

I don't watch television in the US. However, everything being political was true when I lived in Europe for years. Many smart Europeans have written about this for centuries, but I'm guessing you haven't read their work.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nice!

You are now reverting to ad hominem, while accusing me of not making an argument.

I guess its only normal that you feel so strongly about offending other people and making them beneath you

Is it a inferiority complex?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

lol. I just turned your words back onto you, and that's it. I don't feel inferior at all, because I know who I'm chatting with now and why you don't get it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought I could make you think, but it's not something you do

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's definitely what's going on here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We've been talking so much, i like talking to you.

What do you do in your spare time?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I enjoy learning languages, working on Spanish at the moment.

Its a bit difficult for me because I studied Portuguese in the past, so i mix the two!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's awesome! Are you learning for some travel or just to learn?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd say both?

Traveling is expensive, and could you belive I've never been to Portugal? Was supposed to go there in 2020,but then it just fizzled away..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nice! I've never been there either but had a friend who lived there for a few years. Well, maybe you'll get to visit soon and use your Portuguese.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The airplane ticket costs quite a lot, I think almost as much as going to the other side of the world.

Besides, it would make my Spanish learning even worse!

What's the last book you've read? 😊

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh wow, that's expensive. Is it always that expensive or just because of the time of year?

The most recent fiction book I read was pattern recognition which was fun.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's often that expensive 😕

What's the book about?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That really sucks that it's so expensive.

It's a scifi story about a girl who gets hired to track down who has been posting video clips online. The book's like 20 years old now, but was his first one set in the present instead of being in the not-so-distant future. It's a fun read.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sounds cool, does she manage?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It's a bit of a journey, but she does.

So if money weren't an issue, where would you most want to travel?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Everywhere.

I'd buy one of those incredibly expensive yachts and live aboard. Every 3 days, a different destination, a new culture to explore. Can you imagine??

What would you do with infinite money

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like the idea of visiting other places and exploring, but I think I'd want to spend longer in each place. For the times I've travelled, I enjoyed the extended stays most where I really got to get past the surface and travel to the non-touristy places.

I honestly don't know what I'd do with the infinite money. Definitely not having problems would be nice. First thing I'd do is probably make sure all my friends were set and comfortable for life and retirement. Then go from there.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nobody is stopping you from staying more time! With that amount of money, you can do what you want.

This is the world we live in.

Caring for "all your friends" would be very dangerous. They'll want more and more, and friends that you don't consider friends anymore, will become friends again, all of the sudden.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sure, but if it's infinite money, it won't matter, right? :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I guess, lol

Do you know other languages? :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Eh, only 2 sorta well. I've tried learning a bit more, but without being immersed regularly I lose them relatively fast. I can still read a bit of some of them, and hear things in movies or tv shows that I understand.

How about you? You have to have a couple you can at least get around with?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And what languages would those be? Try to keep them fresh with YouTube videos of something that interests you (in the target language).

I can speak ENG, SPA, POR, and ITA 😊 In the past I've studied CHI and JAP, but I remember so little and they are so difficult that I doubt I even have a A1 level 😐

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

German and English are the two I can fumble my way around. Having lived and traveled some, I could fumble some basics in a few others like Dutch. I know a bit of a few others. I can read enough to figure out what's going on in some contexts, and maybe speak enough to get around, but definitely can't carry on a conversation in them.

It's tough. There's only so many hours in the day, and while I do get to watch some videos on occasion, I sometimes have too many things going on. I used to watch movies I knew well in other languages, so I already knew the context and could piece together words and phrases. I don't have time for that anymore though.
