Yeah I can certainly understand that. There were a lot of subreddits that initially allowed memes but once it grew enough they limited or banned them to keep things on topic. Personally I try to avoid posting too many memes on non meme communities. Like I've posted a couple of French memes over on the Quebec sub but that was mainly because there are so few francophone communities. Honestly they are so nice over there, if you ever feel like practicing your French you should join in a conversation or two. In my experience people in Quebec are usually super friendly and understanding if your French isn't great because they have to speak English much more often than English speakers need to speak French, so they appreciate the effort.
