fuck that. It does. not. matter. if people were making jokes or had good intentions and it was interpreted differently by other people. A person that overhears or is the recipient of that behavior has every right to feel the way they do, and it does not matter if the version of events are different. If you had a "disgruntled employee" and chose to ignore it rather than revise policy, then fuck you too.
Lol just fuck off back to whatever sterile hell you live in where nobody's feelings get hurt.
I make jokes and have fun at work every day. Guess what else? No one is making jokes that could be construed negatively. If the only way you know how to make humor is by potentially hurting someone, then those workplace integrity classes are meant specifically for you.
Some people don't understand that nowadays it is accepted that it is up to the recipient to determine what is offensive to them and what's not. No matter what the intention is.
Sure, you can try to explain your intention to smooth things out, but don't use that as an excuse to repeat the offense in case it doesn't work out. Sometimes, it just doesn't, and that's fine.
