World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Jesus. You're just going straight fucking racist here, but you're too historically ignorant to be aware of it.
I'm guessing it was intentional that you didn't touch the British empire. There is no analysis you can do that would have any other government kill more people than the British empire. Should TERF Island "Be destroyed by all means short of overt, kinetic war"?
I mean, there is actual continuity between the current British Government and the British Empire. The Russian government doesn't have anywhere near the same level of continuity.
And I am arguing in good faith. You may not enjoy the cognitive dissonance of having someone point out your obvious racism, but that doesn't make me not believe you're a racist that gets off on feeling self righteous. That is something I truly believe.
Just like the US killed far more Iraqi and Afghani's than Russia killed Ukrainians. SO FAR. That may eventually not be true anymore, but it is an absolute fact now. And facts aren't a bad faith argument.
You know what is a bad faith argument? Ignoring the points in the comment that you are responding to that prove you're either wrong or racistly holding a double standard based on ... something? That is also something I absolutely believe and am arguing in good faith. Although, I suspect that you don't actually know what "bad faith" means.
You know what is also a bad faith argument? Calling someone insane for a strawman argument that you made up. I didn't claim America kill more than 20 million people worldwide. What I did state was that the US kill more Iraqis and Afghani's than Russia killed Ukrainians. Both were illegal invasions.
You don't care about justice. Stop pretending you do.
EDIT:
Iraq - Afghanistan: 4 million Vietnam - Korea: 5 million The Jakarta Method: 1 million
There's at least half of the number that you think justifies destroying a nation that isn't related to the one you're talking about.
What percentage of 20 million deaths crosses the threshold you have for countries that should be destroyed?
Not racist to hate Russians, anymore than it's racist to hate nazis. The race is Slav.
I know people who suffered under the iron curtain, I know Czechs who watched the tanks come through whenever they tried to speak their minds.
If Russia had stayed in their shit country where they belong then everybody would have been happy to pretend they didn't exist, but they didn't.
There is absolutely no hope to not have war.
Russia can't help themselves, they must keep pushing till they reimpose the hell of the soviet union on their neighbors, it is the extension of the moscovy empire above all, and even most Russians hate the ruling power of Moscow.
I welcome your deranged response.
I don't need to respond with anything. The racism is absolutely clear to anyone reading your words.
I'm also willing to bet you don't feel the same way about the English.
I don't have a problem with the English.
Nor do I have a problem with most countries.
Russia are the exception, they have only ever brought misery and brutality.
Ironically enough, their worst victims were always their Slavic brothers.
Talk about raicsm, why do they hate their own race so? You don't pull a Holodomor without a lot of deep-seated hatred.
I think you two are missing each other. One is regionally focussed and responding to the immediacy of a regional crisis; the rhetoric is to encourage action that will alleviate the regional crisis, including an appeal to globalism. The other is enforcing a global viewpoint that tries to trump any regional concerns out of principle and the rhetoric is aimed at the global forum that is lemmy.
Horse vs pony. Whatever, people.
The quibbles over the categorization niceties turn into accusations of racism. Which may or may not be active in this situation but the evidence is not established well enough for the accusation, which is simply a rhetorical trump card here.
Sadly, the state of discourse is so poisonous that ethnicity, which is real, is being swapped out for race, which is not real.
