It is always interesting to consider how humans invented things like this.

I'd immainge that once a group of people found a frozen lake and realized that you could walk on it, they would quickly find it slippery, and laugh at eachother as they fall over.

Soon they start to learn how to control how they slip and and start seeing how to slip the furthest.

Someone may get a piece of wood stuck to their shoe and start slipping much further.

Wooden soles made for ice sliding are being made, people start figuring out that a narrow blade works better, then it was a question of. refinement.

Seeing posts like this is always slightly frustrating, because (as you say) new inventions and whatnot are always very iterative, but these posts just try to make the concept sound funny as if someone miraculously had the idea of the final product just out of nowhere.
