I disagree. Even for the average user being relegated to the Apple ecosystem is a worse situation than being in Google's one where you at least have a far broader choice of apps to use as an alternative to the stock ones.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but to me it's a no-brainer to choose between the company that sells hardware and the company that sells users to advertisers.
At least Android has degoogled variants.
Custom ROMs are obviously the best choice but we're talking specifically about what advice to give to a non-technical user who isn't going to unlock their bootloader and flash a custom ROM, nor are they going to be able to use a linux phone or some other alternative that requires some technical know-how.
You can do that for them, you can show them. Apple want us to feel alone but we are not. Want to really fix privacy? Make in-person groups. Apple wants us alone. It helps Apple and Google takeover.
Yeah, fair. Still, Graphene was very easy to install and I think that my mom would've been able to use the web installer.
