From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

What others wrote except don’t use
dd
. Usersync
or make a backup withtar
.dd
will waste time reading unallocated regions of the disk.rsync
has a ton of options. any specific setup you'd recommend me?EDIT: seems like
rsync -av src/* dst
is working for mesrc/*
will skip hidden files. You wantrsync -avAXUNH src/ dst
which copies contents ofsrc
intodst
. Notice the trailing slash insrc/
. Without the slash,src
is copied intodst
so you end up with asrc
directory indst
. TheAXUNH
enables preserving more things. You might also add--delete
if you’re updating the copy.PS. I should also mention how I end up with
-avAXUNH
. Simple:and then include all that.
a
covers some of those options and those don’t have to be set explicitly:
