Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Oh, this may have just given me a new project to try. Thanks bloody awfully for that (says the owner of two complete sets of homemade chainmail).

This would be dead easy to make with modern tools and materials, and probably a damn sight faster than making an entire suit of chain. And it looks cool.
