It's all these small, fragile things that are going to be irreversible damage to the US. If recovery is possible, it will take generations.

you're absolutely right. it would take 20+ yrs of back-to-back Democratic control to undo what has done in the first 2 Trump terms... that isn't happening... besides, will there even be "terms" anymore when the oligarchs have fully captured our politicians?

executive power has been expanded enormously by both parties in terms of precedent (what they can get away with) and cultural expectation (what avg Americans assume he's allowed to do).

I think our best and least likely hope is that some FDR like figure rises on a massive wave of popular sentiment, and he then wields the enormous unchecked power of the executive to redistribute power back to the people. it happened before, but it took a great recession, mass migrations, violent clashes, and widespread suffering before Americans got angry enough to scare the establishment into allowing FDR to take control.
