What's up whit this Gadsden flag militia bullshit in left spaces after Trump?
Everybody thinks they are the French Resistance when it's going to go down like the Branch Dividians. But maybe that's too generous. Who are we going to arm? Undocumented people? Trans people? And they're going to shoot who? The cops, ICE? what's the plan General?
What Gadsen flag bullshit? I mean, hell, did you ever thing the working class was supposed to be disarmed? Something something frustrating such efforts, with force, if necessary.
Yes.
Yes
Hopefully, nobody, like what happened in Dallas when cops showed up to empty a homeless camp. Armed resistance showed up, and stopped them before they started.
No gods, no masters, no idols. Find your own affinity group, and figure out the plan for your affinity group. The vanguards aren't going to help you. The government isn't going to help you. You and your community will be the best ones to figure out how and why and when for your resistance.
On one hand, you aren't wrong that the private arms fetishization has seen a sharp uptick.
On the other hand, private arms ownership is a step of preparation and readiness, and a sign of taking the current crisis seriously.
I don't think anyone is about to cobble together a private militia and overthrow the government, or even put up a meaningful fight if the government takes an interest in them. Nor do I think that if the SWAT team busts down a leftist's door, they're gonna turn into Rambo at a moment's notice. But between the risk of vigilantes/paramilitaries in far-right regimes and their planning, and the practice of familiarization with means of resistance, private arms ownership in the current climate is not inherently bad or useless.
Leftists have always been mostly pro-gun. Not in a fetishist, burning desire to murder in the way that right wingers are. We just understand that it's a lot harder to oppress an armed group, and also that the oppressive system isn't gonna overthrow itself.
That's not to say change through peaceful means isn't possible or shouldn't be attempted as much as possible, but it has generally only ever worked with the threat of violence should it fail. But history and theory shows us it will probably come to violence.
Sounds like a great start. We're all oppressed by capitalism, but marginalized like these are also oppressed in different ways on top of that (intersectionality). Good on identifying that.
We've not had to deal with large scale civil conflicts in most of the west for a while. But when it comes down to it, yeah probably. We haven't reached that point yet, seemingly.
But anyway if you still hold Liberal views about banning all guns from private ownership I urge you to encourage gun ownership among marginalized people. You will never see the government quicker to ban guns than the day they start arming themselves en masse. California's (relatively) stronger gun laws started to be passed in response to Black Panther members encouraging much the same under Reagan's governorship.
And what’s your plan exactly? Wait another four years and when the democrats move more to the right try voting for them again and see what happens?
I know this wasn't a reply to me, but here's mine:
Arm my neighbors. Host regular trainings for firearms. Host regular first aid training. Start growing more food. Help my neighbors grow more food. Learn and share DIY skills with my neighbors. Build up mutual aid networks in place, with my neighbors.
Basically, whatever it takes to make myself, and my community less reliant on the state, and therefore more resilient.
See this is a good, coherent plan that actually prepares you and your community.
Generally speaking... I think it's generic enough to be applicable to most communities in the US.
