Rattle enakes and coyotes are the only two of those i wouldnt be willing to handle wild. If you know what you are doing most animals make their body language pretty clear. And the vast majority of them want nothing to do with you unless they deem you as a non threat. As far as taking them home, i dont think you should take any animal home unless it clearly seems open to domestication. Ive handled scorpions locally that were super chill, i go out of my way to handle local jumping spiders if theyre willing to jump on me. Dogs are the only animal i see and my first instinct is fear and yet they dont require anything. I mean a lot of them are literally bred to kill shit, yet have less oversight than a squirrel.

The thing you're missing here is that a lot of people are not capable of reading the animals' body language. Hence, permit. Also the part where just taking some wild animal home as a pet isn't ok, and to actually care for one you would usually require some pretty specialized knowledge.

I also fully agree that dogs above a certain size should require permits because holy fuck I know most of them are pretty chill and at most kinda loud but they still scare the hell out of me and I can't trust their owners to control them in all cases. And while knowledge of how to handle them is more common, some people still fuck that up..
