Hey @[email protected],

I’m unsure what happened here to spark this but the concern around Hexbear is genuine given they have had a longstanding history of abusive conduct towards others.

There’s our take which was preemptively defederating them for brigading Blahaj Lemmy, but there’s also additional listed on Fediseer (https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/hexbear.net) by other instances including lemmy.blahaj.zone admins themselves, db0’s instance, and lemmy.world:

  • lemmy.dbzer0.com put it fairly comprehensively:

Poor moderation practices against dbzer0 admins: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/25794925 Lemmy.ca defederation statement: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/2120670 Lemmy.world defederation statement: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/1363858

Examples of the whole pip-poop-balls saga and their users' attitudes: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/1810893, https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/22359207

Hexbear users spend a lot of their time "dunking on the libs" aka trolling, then claiming they are being victimized whenever they get moderated or defederated.

  • As did lemmy.world:

Lemmy.World defederated pre-emptively: https://lemmy.world/post/2498330. On the instances they do or did federate with they caused drama: Blahaj https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1997167 and Lemm.ee : https://lemm.ee/post/4543536 or https://lemm.ee/post/5751850. They have a community dedicated to "exposing" libs and harassing them: https://hexbear.net/c/the_dunk_tank. Harassment: https://hexbear.net/comment/3966125. They added a rule to their dunktank sidebar to not go after the instance admins after a plea from lemm.ee admin sunaurus. Other instance users are still fair game. More examples of their users' behavior: https://imgur.com/a/d63ohQM

I don’t believe that Nate’s comments were in bad faith but were an attempt to warn that Hexbear isn’t all that it seems, and that appears to be the general MO which would put trans users in danger and at risk of harassment.

We may be wrong, and I do hope that the trans communities there are well-moderated, but it’s always not sat right that Hexbear admins ignore the conduct of their users.
