On 26 September 1983, Stanislav Petrov, an engineer of the Soviet Air Defence Forces, prevented an all out nuclear war.

I thought about Stanislav when I watched Dr. Strangelove recently (as a tribute to James Earl Jones). How close we came, and how grateful we all should be to the level heads of this world.
