I was out most of yesterday, so was checking periodically when I could. So, I haven't really checked my phone until this morning and holy shit have I missed some stuff...
It does feel like the window has been a little underwhelming. I guess because, although technically a signing, Raya already felt like our player. We then acquired another goalkeeper in Neto (Rammers rightly moving on). Califiori looks like good business, but another defender, Merino a midfielder, but is now out with injury for a few weeks. Then, there's Stirling.
I don't know what to make of that one. We help out Chelsea by getting him off their books for a year and he possibly still has the skill, I just don't know if we'll get it out of him. I'm having Willian flashbacks.
The caveat to that is Havertz was in the same boat and look where he is now. Chelsea is an absolute shambles that I hope never ends.
All in all, I think the market this year has been odd and difficult for a lot of clubs and we were definitely one of those impacted by it. That being said, we didn't need a squad overhaul. We have a solid 11 that needed some reliable quality in depth and I think we did that. However, if we lose Havertz, I think we're going to struggle.
@nuggsy @GunnersBot The Merino injury a freak accident, but at the least bad time. 6-8 weeks out during which there are TWO breaks for international🤮🤮 football minimises the damage and ALMOST makes me grateful for that abhorrent abomination. Almost
@[email protected] Yeah, those happen and that's a fair point I hadn't considered. Still not ideal, but looking forward to seeing him play and how he will contribute to the team :)
@nuggsy Me too. As someone said on Threads, the accident does show how physically intimidating the squad now is. Probably moved Vieira for his own protection 😁
