i thought V was pretty good…

It was exciting, in the same way that Fight Club was exciting. But it rested heavily on the idea that one guy doing super-villain style terrorism against an Evil Media Guy was all it took to bring about sweeping social change.

The name really says it all. This isn't V for Victory. Its a story about the triumph of nihilism.

It's about American neoliberalism vs neoconservatism instead of the comic's British anarchism vs fascism.

But that's just Alan Moore's take.

i dunno… i didn’t take it as such a literal parable for what we should do to enact change…
more of a metaphorical, as well as cautionary tale….

Fight Club is about coming to grips with mental illness.

Everyone has their own take on what fight club is about.

Even if I did have my own take on Fight Club… I wouldn’t talk about it.

This Guy Fawkes.

What? You mean the terrorist who was arrested for trying to blow up a house of parliament? What's problematic about that?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Do you know why he wanted to do it?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He was a papist (i.e. a Catholic theocrat) who was fighting against the Protestant theocracy in England. He wanted to replace a Protestant theocracy with a Catholic theocracy.

That's about all I know. I'm not an expert or anything.

you’re confusing the actual Guy Fawkes with the symbol of Guy Fawkes….
it means something quite different now

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

More like quite cringe tbh

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i’ll take your advice on what’s “cringe” or not….

You’re entitled to feel however you want 🤷‍♂️

Just take note that you are commenting on a post that has the word “cringe” in the title…
