Well, to this day the "allemands" keep calling us the kingdom of the Frank. Of course they have rule France from the moment it started to be France until just two centuries ago but since we were the first in our civilisation to get rid of kings and we have still for 150 years without major revolt, I believe that it may be time to update our name. You don't hear us keep calling the German "Prussians" don't you.

I think OPs point is that this "Frank" guy is still in your country's name.

That's like saying there was a King Godzilla once, you get rid of him, and then call your country "Republic of Godzilla."

I'm not saying you don't have a point. I just understand the parent poster's point too.

The thing is that the Frank did not rule the country while living in isolation. They got married, got kids and today a significate amount of the french population has some Frank blood. If Goodzila had rule a country for more that a thousand years and that the population of the country was mostly its children it wouldn't be much a stretch to call it Godzillaland after it loses its position.
