This is probably why he has been so hesitant on making campaign promises this time around.
If he takes up a stand other than "dems are bad", he risks dividing his fanbase.
Well his issue is that he has been saying shit to appease his cult and they took a turn for straight up fascism, and then his issue is that the coup failed and he is no longer in power and that maga cult is simply not big enough to get him elected, he has to take some more reasonable stances to attract the "normal" republicans, but then those somewhat normal views are too fucking extreme for his maga cult so he is in risk of losing them if he says stuff like this, he is kinda fucked
Why doesn't he just do the classics which they all agree on? Promises of overt bigotry and being financially cucked by billionaires always work great on Repubs.
It worked when he had it in the bag because potentially democratically voters would've stayed home for Biden.
Now they get mobilised because they feel the shift in energy, so Trump has to try fishing in the less extremist ponds.
He should be just promising to invade some ME country and not touch upon domestic issues other than "it's gonna be truly great this time folks".
He should promise to invade Mexico, build a wall farther south
That would be very traditional, but a bit contradictory to his promises of not bringing in more Mexicans. Unless genocide is implied, of course.
Trump's one strategy is to say something and see if it catches. If it falls flat, he won't bring it up again. If it works, he'll hammer it harder next time.
He must have felt how much they're losing on abortion and tried to pull it back, but the base won't follow him there. You probably won't hear him bring it up again for the rest of the campaign.
Oh, that's true. He literally said that's what he does. He was talking about "drain the swamp" and admitted to exactly what you wrote here.
He’s trying to win the other side. As he has competition now.
Sure, but I mean, that's not why he and the GOP don't have a platform. It's because he is a compulsive liar and nobody - least of all himself - can even keep track of all the contradictory positions he's taking.
