How was Lisa never vaccinated against the Mumps? That has always bothered me.
It looks like the widely available/popular MMR vaccine was widespread by the late 70s, and given Lisa's age she would have been born in the early 80s.
So she likely would have gotten it.
However I suspect the writers for the show just reflected on their own childhood when people getting mumps was a thing.
Currently, mmr is about 86% effective against mumps. It may have been less so in the 80s. Also, she may have only had one round of shots. Could be she was just unlucky, and her immune response wasn't strong enough. It's not unheard of.
