My recommendation is to go buy a car from one of the companies who were cheating on the emissions tests and polluting the air for years while lying to you about it so you would feel good and they could make $$$$$$ which a study indicates up to 38,000 people a year died prematurely because of.
There's a great selection between the following
BMW
Audi
Volkswagen
Mercedes-Benz
Nissan
Opel (owned by GM at the time)
Fiat Chrysler
Renault
Toyota
Mitsubishi
Bosch
Cummins
ZF Friedrichshafen
Ford (ongoing in UK as of 2024)
GM (ongoing lawsuit in USA, but nothing recent in news so not sure on status, but they get counted due to Opel anyway)
Edit: oh and it looks like Hyundai/Kia were raided by German officials in June 2022 over the same issue! Not sure on status. Oh and Kia had their own problems back in 2014 too, emitting more than EU limits.
Had two cars affected by Dieselgate, will never buy a VW or Audi again; they’re dead to me. Which sucks because I loved them. But you know what? I love my 2018 Model 3 even more. Though honestly, both my husband and I feel pretty icky about Tesla now. We got really lucky with the build quality of our car but we know people who have had major issues going way beyond panel gaps. And that’s not even going into the Musk issue.
