Documenting hate-speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of bias)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism or any variation of Tankie Ideology. There is no justifying Genocide.

Revisionism — Downplaying or denying atrocities past and present will result in an immediate ban.

If you're violating instance rules, you'll typically be warned. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last seven days, but repeat infractions will have longer sentences. You may ask to be unbanned.

After someone mentioned me without tagging me on the Return2Ozma thread drama, I decided to Lemmy search my name to see what else I was missing out on. I didn't realize I was so popular with the "People who defend tankies" demographic of Lemmy! Apparently, I'm a brainrotted liberal debate lord (simultanously, without any beliefs) who hates every leftist movement in existence, is a wedge between liberals and leftists, and sees imaginary tankies everywhere.

I mean, obviously, since I've made a whole 9 posts about them, including posts on "MeanwhileOnGrad" (5 if you exclude MeanwhileOnGrad and TankieJerk), over my past year on the Fediverse (out of ~1,570 total posts). Clearly, if it wasn't for me, the leftists would have finally joined hands with the liberals to sing kumbaya together.

That's a lot of work I have to put in when all I want to do is browse politics and post history minutiae without having to worry about people advocating genocide or fascism, but I wouldn't want to disappoint any of them!

Also, apparently they think I'm Yeetpics? Which is a strange connection to make, considering our writing styles are... very different.

EDIT: And Joe Biden's strongest warrior! Wow!

I don't accept any of those people as left, much less "ultra left". They're rossian conservatives larping as leftists, at best

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I can't agree, they are authoritarian yes but they advocate for collectivist policies, and I've met people like them IRL so I know they are indeed real.

Authoritarianism is inherently antithetical to the fundamental leftist goals of liberty and egalitarianism because it empowers an unaccountable ruling class instead of a democratic government

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

By that logic leftist anarchists aren't leftist because they don't want a government democratic or otherwise, by definition.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Anarchists are radically egalitarian and libertarian and support the formation of democratic governments through voluntary free association rather than a centralized and hierarchical state

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

"Not typically/always," and those, by definition, are not "anarchists." I suppose minarchism (if we allow that to be a generic term for "minimal government" rather than "almost anarchocapitalist,") is a more apt term for them, but by definition anarchism lacks a government.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Supporters of forming democratic governments through voluntary free association aren’t anarchists

But

Supporters of enslaving millions in gulags, assassinating all political opposition, crushing democratic uprisings through military force, and imperialist expansion through invasion and annexation are leftists

Did I get that right?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Nope. Find me a definition right now that says "anarchists" support "enslaving millions in gulags, assassinating all political opposition, crushing democratic uprisings through military force, and imperialist expansion through invasion and annexation" by definition.

I'll wait.

Ok so now that you're back with "Anarchism - The theory or doctrine that all forms of government are oppressive and undesirable and should be abolished," since you couldn't find your stupid bullshit anywhere, you see now how anarchists are not in support of "government," yes?

Either you missed mine or failed to succinctly make yours.

Their advocacy for collectivist policies is the larping; they spend most of their energy pushing for fascism

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago

I mean, they spend most of their energy being terminally online, but that doesn't indicate which side of the political spectrum they are on. They spend most of their time being terminally online by pushing collectivist policies in the most asshole way possible, that helps narrow it down that they're just asshole leftists. Leftists can indeed be assholes despite your unwillingness to believe it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Collectivist, until people they don't like show up at the table.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

As is the nature of many collectivists. You're either in the collective or against the collective.
