I may need some clarification - you thinking I’m usually polite when I refute while you aim to provoke, or something? Since neither of us block people from what you said earlier.
I don’t think anything about your attitude or demeanor when responding to others. I was referring more towards you saying to simply not engage with the trolls at all so that newbies would get the impression that we’re better than that as the difference between us.
Ah, I DO engage - sometimes the behavior is reportable and I’ll downvote and ignore, but when someone is following the rules yet still being a jerk, I’ll poke fun or something.
If someone is being hateful and I block them (because the pig would enjoy a fight), others may see a hateful message.
If someone is being hateful and I reply with love or jokes, others will see hate AND pushback. Hopefully that makes Lemmy feel more welcoming ‘n’ just better overall.
I can agree with not engaging with hate and reporting it as encountered.
