Be helpful

Posts to pop_os must be helpful. When responding to a user asking for help, do not provide tongue-in-cheek responses like "RTM" or links to LMGTFY. Linking to direct sources that answer the asker's question is fine, but it's advised to provide some explanation as to how you got to that source.

Critique should be constructive

We within the Pop!_OS community welcome helpful criticism or ideas on ways to improve. However, basic "It's bad" or other simple negative comments don't help anyone fix anything. When voicing a complaint about something, try to point out ways the complaint could be improved or worked around, so that we can make a better product for it.

This rule applies to both Pop!_OS and its projects as well as other products available from third-parties.

Don't post malicious "advice"

It can be funny to joke about malicious commands, however this is not the venue for it. Do not advise users to run commands which will lock up their systems, steal their data, or erase their drive. Examples of this include (but are not limited to) fork bombs, rm, etc.

Posts violating this rule will be removed, even if the post is clearly in jest. Repeated offences may lead to a ban. You may understand that the command isn't serious, but a new user might not.

No personal attacks

Posts making a personal attack on any user will not be tolerated.

No hate speech

Hate speech of any kind will not be tolerated. Any violations will be removed, and are grounds for a ban.

I updated my graphics drivers from nvidia 470 to nvidia 560 due to issues running certain games. It's fixed my gaming issue but reintroduced the problem that kept me from updating for so long.

After setting my computer to "suspend," it wakes up to this screen on all monitors. I am unable to scroll up or type further commands, my only option is to reboot the machine.

  • My graphics card is: NVIDIA Corporation GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070]
  • Nvidia driver version: 560.35.03

I can't make heads or tails of this error screen. The best I can understand is the "Fixing recursive fault but reboot is required!" line. How can I get more information? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I freshly installed Pop yesterday on an old LG e530. Everything works fine except for the settings app. When I try to open it, it appears as open on the task bar but the window is nowhere. Checked the workspace, updated system packages and rebooted. Nothing.

A while back COSMIC entered its Alpha 1 and then Alpha 2 and now we have the CEO of System76 Carl Richell back on the show to talk about the project.

One notable comment (around minute 49) by Carl is that there will "soon" be a development option available for Pop!_OS 22.04 users to upgrade to 24.04 where some GNOME applications will be replaced by their COSMIC equivalents.

Hey All, When my desktop was Windows, I'd use my desktop to rip DVD/Blu-rays, move them to the movies folder, then use robocopy to copy just new files from my desktop to my Plex server. Used switches to copy just the new files and folders.

What is the Linux equivalent to do this?
