LYRICS

I shot a gun today

For the first time

I was surprised at how Easy it was

And man it made me feel so powerful

I think I'm ready to start a revolution

.

We got elections coming up

I don’t know who I wanna pick

A criminal or a racist pig

It's the same damn thing every couple years

I think it's time to overthrow the government

.

So I was getting myself ready for the revolution

Getting myself ready for the revolution

’til I remembered I have work in the morning

The revolution will have to wait 'til after 5 PM I guess

.

Spent the summer on the road

Driving through the desert and mountains, sleeping on

Floors and couches

Whoever said you needed money to travel

Didn't have many friends

Now I'm back in Pennsylvania

Sleeping until 11 AM

My friends they call me lazy, they just don't get it

I'm dreaming up my plan for the revolution

.

So I've been getting myself ready for the cold cold winter

Getting myself ready for the cold cold winter

Forgot to stop and watch the leaves change colors

Watch them all fall down

I shot a gun today, was surprised at how easy it was

I think I'm gonna ask for one for Christmas

Either that or a new guitar

LYRICS

[Verse 1]

When it's bigger than us

When it's larger than life

At least at first

Did you think, did you know

That you're heading for bust

Before shit gets old

[Pre Chorus]

And it work (work)

When it work (work)

Someone's got to tell it

When the dumb things hurt

When it work (work)

Then it work (work)

Someone's got to call it

Before it hit the hearse

[Chorus]

So with time, work, we can make it

If we're fighting for the same thing

And with love, we can make it

If we're fighting for the same thing

[Verse 2]

Won't ever tear us apart

Promised you as you tamed this heart

Untold control

By nothing wrong, then a worry starts

Saying you, you

Make this home shine electrical for two

Who knew, who knew

We'd be challenged by the consequence

Of what we wouldn't do

[Chorus]

But with time, work, we can make it

If we're fighting for the same thing

And some love won't hurt

If we're fighting for the same thing

Yeah, oh, ow!

If we're fighting for the same thing

And some love, it can't hurt

If we're fighting for the same thing

[Bridge]

Gimme some love

You got to gimme some love

Don't you pretend

When it's all a vow

Show me some love

You got to show me some love

We can't pretend

When it's all a vow

Throw me some love

Now won't you throw me some love?

We can't pretend

When it's all a vow

Give me some love

Now won't you show me some love?

We can't pretend anymore

[Chorus]

'Cause with time, work, we can make it

If we're fighting for the same thing

And some love won't hurt

If we're fighting for the same thing

Yeah, oh, ow!

If we're fighting for the same thing

We can make it, gonna make it

If we're fighting for the same thing

[Outro]

Fighting for the same thing

Fighting for the same thing

Tributes have been paid to Can icon Damo Suzuki, after it was announced that the influential vocalist and musician had passed away at the age of 74.

The experimental artist died after a long battle with colon cancer, having been diagnosed in 2014 when he was given a 10 per cent chance of survival.

music for plants seems to establish itself as a standalone genre already, with its roots being as deep as Mort Garson's famous Plantasia. this genre assumes that plants enjoy simplistic/minimalist and playful analog synth sounds and it's hard to tell if there's hard evidence to that or it's because Plantasia sounded that way ~ probably a mixture of both. plants do seem to react better to the pure tones rather than complex polyphony but there's clearly not enough studies on that. though, in case of this cassette it's more closer to the reality, as David Edren actually played his music sketches to two plants known for their sensitivity to movement and touch, including the movement of air. once again it's up to human's interpretation whether plants liked those sounds or not, but going by intuition it is possible (i believe) to draw an outline. in the end, David tells in the interview that with such music what's more important is to positively affect not the plants themselves but our relationship with them.

Here's the music video for "Urban Driftwood," the single off my record, also titled, "Urban Driftwood!" "Urban Driftwood" is out January 29, 2021 on SPINSTER. Buy from label (vinyl/CD/digital): https://yasminwilliams.bandcamp.com/album/urban-driftwood

Directed by Drew Hagelin Camera Operation by Drew Hagelin, Josh Vaile Appearances by Yasmin Williams and Amadou Kouyate

The narrative plot of Urban Driftwood culminates in the repetitive, meditative sounds of guitar, kora, kalimba, and hand drums on the penultimate title track, creating a sonic landscape that communicates the feeling of movement and evokes images of the natural beauty that persists within urban spaces. As she wrote the song, Williams was reflecting on her personal role in the context of the current societal moment, considering her position as Black female guitarist within a white male dominated field. Yasmin says, “There are not many Black guitarists within this genre and particularly with all of the political and social discord that was/is happening in the United States in 2020, I felt it was extremely important to include a song on the album that was inspired by my heritage and paid homage to who I am, the household I grew up in, the music I listened to as a child. ‘Urban Driftwood’ is more like the music I grew up listening to than any other song I’ve released so far.”

LYRICS:

Here we stand

Like an Adam and an Eve

Waterfalls

The Garden of Eden

Two fools in love

So beautiful and strong

The birds in the trees

Are smiling upon them

From the age of the dinosaurs

Cars have run on gasoline

Where, where have they gone?

Now, it's nothing but flowers

There was a factory

Now there are mountains and rivers

You got it, you got it

We caught a rattlesnake

Now we got something for dinner

We got it, we got it

There was a shopping mall

Now it's all covered with flowers

You've got it, you've got it

If this is paradise

I wish I had a lawnmower

You've got it, you've got it

Years ago

I was an angry young man

And I'd pretend

That I was a billboard

Standing tall

By the side of the road

I fell in love

With a beautiful highway

This used to be real estate

Now it's only fields and trees

Where, where is the town

Now, it's nothing but flowers

The highways and cars

Were sacrificed for agriculture

I thought that we'd start over

But I guess I was wrong

Once there were parking lots

Now it's a peaceful oasis

You've got it, you've got it

This was a Pizza Hut

Now it's all covered with daisies

You got it, you got it

I miss the honky tonks,

Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens

You got it, you got it

And as things fell apart

Nobody paid much attention

You got it, you got it

I dream of cherry pies,

Candy bars, and chocolate chip cookies

You got it, you got it

We used to microwave

Now we just eat nuts and berries

You got it, you got it

This was a discount store,

Now it's turned into a cornfield

You've got it, you've got it

Don't leave me stranded here

I can't get used to this lifestyle
