It's not ok with the toxic community for Microsoft to advertise features of its operating systems (or let them know of so-called 'bloat'). But it is OK for a company to use pop-ups to request money for their communist endeavors.

Some people may happen on this sub and be in transition from the cult to reality. They may get defensive of Linux using already debunked arguments. I'd encourage people like this to chill out and learn before polluting the sub with their poison.
Lie: There are no good tiling Window Managers on Windows.
Komorebi is an excellent well documented dynamic tiling window manager in heavy development who's dev posts regularly on YouTube. -Before this, we had Workspacer which seems abandoned and not developed for Windows 11 (though it mostly works). GlazeWM is like a better version of I3 (manual tiler) for windows that has also seen great strides in recent development.
Lie: Windows is not customizable like Linux.
Windows isn't as easy to fuck up as Linux. -That doesn't make it 'not customizable'. Watch any of this guy's recent videos and see someone 'customizing' Windows in real time: https://www.youtube.com/@LGUG2Z
Lie: Linux is more secure and doesn't spy because 'all eyes on code'.
This is just basically unsubstantiated bullshit propaganda that doesn't appeal to common sense (try auditing Firefox source code, malicious code can be hidden and fragmented among multiple files/ directories, FOSS devs lack incentive for reputation and are held less responsible). Microsoft has been around since near the beginning of desktop computers and hasn't lost our trust or sold us into FEMA camps like the conspiracy theorists like to believe. FOSS is less secure because people (anyone) can read the source and more easily find vulnerabilities as opposed to paid auditors. The thing that 'might' make Linux safer is them having such a tiny market share on desktop that they're not a target for most bad actors. There have been decade old bugs found in major FOSS projects, multiple times Linux has been responsible for destroying hardware (without warranty - displays, optical drives and even mainboards), and all this kind of stuff can be found if people simply used a search before parroting false claims.
RE: "Microsoft found guilty" - Multi-national corporations find it better to just pay fines and follow directives rather than to employ legal teams to fit all the arbitrary laws of different countries (and still fail). Any large corporation like this will have lawsuits against them. People should be holding their governments responsible for oversites.

What a horrible time to evangelize for GNU + Linux (as if there ever was a good time). Wayland replacing X11, and Pipewire replacing Pulse. -Both of them tossing functionality out the door and presenting users with even more idiotic choices. It would be one thing to rationalize the use of one or the other by use-case, but the toxic community wants everyone moving forward while telling us the old tech they so highly recommended before is now all of the sudden 'vulnerable' and 'bad'. Wayland is 16+ years old btw and still has major issues. -The cost of FOSS.

Shitty software, fragmentation, poor funding for some projects, and parts of projects getting insufficient attention.

Claims to be classless but creates a new ruling class.

Derek Taylor (example) advocating for FOSS but also sells a non-FOSS keyboard. Uses his position to make money off the work of FOSS developers. -Isn't living what he's selling. Luke Smith asking for donations for 'introducing you to FOSS software' (that someone else did all the work on).
- Communism:
Black markets come about as people circumvent regulations and acquire goods and services outside the system.
- How it relates:
Not everyone wants to play by the rules.
- Communism:
Disregard for human rights leading to forced labor, persecution, and even mass murder.
- How it relates:
Communism spreads. If we expect software and the labor of developers for free, we're going to expect it from other areas. It is a disease.
- Supplemental:
The Soviet Union resorted to forced labor camps (Gulags).
China lacks freedom of the press and has human rights abuses and censorship.
Cuba has a restrictive economy and lack of individual freedoms.
North Korea has food shortages and limited access to information.

"It works perfectly fine"
Your software packages are old (on top of being how far behind Linux in general runs behind proprietary to begin with). -This means they have less features and more vulnerabilities. Hardware compatibility sucks because of 'old kernel'. Software support is lacking and sometimes needs PPAs or 'personal package archives'.
Anyone with common sense can see you're recommending a distro based on a server distro that's based on a server distro (and surmise there'd be problems with that). Mint can't even focus on one distro but wastes resources on a Debian version (server distro), and a desktop environment (the only one I tried and rage quit after a half hour because of the convoluted way of using their GUI). So Mint adds to the problem of GNU/Linux and the choices with not only 2 redundant versions of itself, but a DE no one needed or asked for.
Some not so bright Linux youtuber told his followers that they need to stop confusing noobs with many different distros. He suggested to pick one and go with that. -He picked Mint and not for any particular reason. -This youtuber also told us that 'Linux is Linux' and distro didn't matter.
