Whenever Reddit hosted r/place, it got instantly dominated by streamers and massive clans covering the canvas in their insignia, anybody else who wanted to draw be damned. I remember in 2022 I was working with a smaller subreddit to try to put a 16x16 graphic somewhere unobtrusive and could scarcely put 3 pixels down before getting overwritten by the German flag that was already taking up 1/3 of the canvas.

On Canvas yesterday, somebody put up a ~50 pixels wide drawing of Princess Celestia fighting Nightmare Moon (something that wouldn't have survived 20 seconds on Reddit before being vandalized) and the people drawing the osu! logo went behind it!

I'm just kind of amazed and stunned and glad that we seem to be infinitely better at silently collaborating and not stepping on each other than the people on That Other Site who are obsessed with pointless internet clout.

Is this a feature or just another bug on the canvas?

Also right now it just keeps on trying to load the canvas while it all stays white. "Not cached" it says, but it just waits right there...

I tried on 2 devices with 2 different networks with and without VPN and the result's still the same

The rectangle was placed by [email protected], with the pixel times sometimes matching to the millisecond.

For context, last year's Canvas took about a day and a half and I only listed 5 other names on the 'thanks' post. Now 16 of us got it done well within the first 24 hours!

Dotted Small, Dotted Big

These seem similar, but I'm still not entirely sure how to use them.

They seem to overlay the intended pixel colour in the center, and display the current colour of the pixel a couple shades lighter. Is this correct?

What advantage is conferred by altering the current colour of the pixel?

Possible bug: If the intended pixel colour is white, but the current pixel colour is grey, this is lightened to white when the template is applied. There is no way to tell that the pixel is the wrong colour while the template is on.

Is this a bug, or am I not using them correctly?

Edit: After the server maintenance on July 13th, it seems the bug has been fixed.

Hey sorry to whoever is doing the bread/toast on the bottom right corner, I had the bug where I only saw recently placed pixels and thought it was free! Wanted to make a pink corner lol.
