I'm starting to think that my life is over and I don't want to live anymore. As of writing this I am a 23 year old woman with no qualifications or education. I have learning disabilities and my IQ is just 76. I struggle with things like talking, maths and spelling and I can't find a job.

When I was a kid I knew I was different. Things that were easy for the other kids to do took me ages to learn. Kids used to make fun of me because of the way I talked and in general I could fit in. As I got older my learning disabilities become more noticeable. I was diagnosed with ADHD and low intelligence and therefore struggled academically but my dad refused to put me in a special education program because he thought it would be an embarrassment. School was very hard for me. I would work my ass off just to get C's and B's and my father was very abusive. He would expect me to do well in school and if I didn't he would beat and punish me. I had to repeat the 7th and 9th grade but I eventually graduated but very poor grades and no qualifications. When I was around 15-18 started to do drugs like weed and alcohol just to cope.

I left my parents house when I was 19 and went to live with a friend. I have very little money as I'm addicted to drugs and my lack of education makes getting a job practically impossible. I don't see my life going anywhere and when I'm not on drugs I'm miserable. My brothers and sisters have done so much better then me and it makes me so jealous, angry and ashamed. I know this may sound cringe but I honestly can't do this anymore.

EDIT: I now have a job at Burger King as a cook. It's not glamorous but it's some money.

A lot of people has been questioning why so many go to BlueSky, and I think convenience and familiar look to Twitter in the official web UI and mobile app, not having to choose an instance by having one pre-selected (although can be changed) and I was wondering if Mastodon ever had such approach, would any instance be able to handle a huge traffic and mass migration to the instance? Or perhaps shuffle by checking instances health, but then would that even be worse instead?

For those who don't know, BlueSky is open-source, can be partially self-hosted and has API usage available free of charge, also can be bridged with the Fediverse. Which comes a long way better than Twitter and easier to reach from the Fediverse. However, it does have some questionable connections. Not possible to have investments and control them? Weird, for anyone who has heard of LadyBird (web browser) which takes a whole different approach when it comes to investment and still managed to get heavily funded.

Most of the people in the Fediverse who joined having privacy as a firat concern is well-aware and hear often privacy comes at the price of convenience, I doubt people who waited this long to leave Twitter (not even YouTube calls it X, only has the logo X) was because of privacy concern. But even if Mastodon were more convenient to those people in such way, would it even somehow be able to receive 100-150+ thousands people per day?

I don't mean better for you or me but better in general. Do you believe our species will ever reach some form of enlightenment or will we destroy ourselves?

I want to know. I don't care if it's a fancy artisan gelato or just your regular soft serve at McBurger's. Do you have a flavor you like? Perhaps a brand? Perhaps you make it yourself? If you're getting scoops, do you have a preference for which flavor goes on top of the other? Do you like wafer cones or are you a cup person? Any toppings?

I always prefer gelato, and some of my all time favorites are sabayon, mascarpone, anything with rum/berries/sultanas, and choc chip mint. I prefer cup to cone. When I was a kid I used to love the soft serve cones but as I grew up they started making me sick so I avoid them now.

All I see are rows of empty questions. Did something scare everyone away? Don't tell me everything got empty after the last drama happened.

Im looking for the internet equivalent of screaming into the void when stress gets to great and you are about to pop.

I may not be 100% wrong, but I noticed a pattern. Whenever a story is led by minorities and white male characters are secondary, most of the time right-wing ideological white men start complaining and attacking the story. So if someone is starting to create a story, is it better to focus on a certain audience and not create white male characters? Or is that an exaggeration?

Films and TV shows and more often have subtitles, which are helpful for enjoying muted video, translation, people with hearing impairment, people struggling to understand accents, checking fast unclear dialogue and other reasons. They are important, and sometimes it's clear when they do something right or wrong.

Maybe we can't expect them all to be works of art, but there are certainly some easy wins even in the industrial media environment. What do you think?

You may have heard of Shonnen Jump's "Big 3" back in the day. They were, if I'm not mistaken: Naruto, One Piece** and Bleach**. Three of the most successful Mangas of the magazine that were published simultaneously.

It's been a while since then, we are in a new era with new groundbreaking manga. Will there be an equivalent to the "Big 3" in the modern era?

For me there is no argument, two of the most artistically and narratively impressive manga currently on the air are Chainsaw Man and Dandadan. Mind you, they're not as "big" as Naruto was back in the day or One Piece is today, but their impact is undeniable.

So I thought I'd give them their own category: the "Weird," weird manga being published simultaneously and having a brutal impact.

**That said, I'm missing one more manga to be able to talk about the "Weird 3", so I wanted to know if any of you have a suggestion for the third spot.

Or if you have your own way of ranking the most famous, original and/or successful manga, I would like to read your opinions.

I'm fairly new to the fediverse, but my understanding is that different platforms are supposed to be able to share content between them. I have always hated most social media and reddit was the only one whose layout I could stand, so my favorite fediverse platform is Lemmy. I do have a mastodon account but if I can get the same content here I'd rather just delete it and use a platform I like. Is that how it works? If so how do I do that/know when I'm doing it?

Both about a new topic or a topic that you already are interested in.

There are TIL communities here on lemmy and they are good, but mostly not about using the info to do things.

Any websites, rss feeds, youtube channels, lemmy(or other site) communities etc. that you subscribe to for that?
And going beyond online stuff, any books or publications or groups that you like?

I'm in the process of transitioning from my current career in teaching to the NLP career via the Python path and while I've been learning on my own for about three months now I've found it a bit too slow and wanted to see if there's a good course (described in the title) that's really worth the money and time investment and would make things easier for someone like me?

One important requirement is that (for this purpose) I've no interest in exclusively self-study courses where you are supposed to watch videos or read text on your own without ever meeting anyone in real-time.

philosophically speaking

~~Pretty straightforward: where does the awareness that porn wrecks your mind and sexuality stops and where does simply conservatism towards sexuality begins (even in cases akin to bolshe morality)?~~

EDIT: okay, better clarifying it - i came across some video from some youtuber claiming that pornography is evil, period. and that there are things such as "metapornography", which could apply to someone in instagram posting videos of themselves in scant dressing and claiming likes of it. and that no-fap and anti-masturbation movements are good things.

i was really confused about that since that person came from apparently a progressive-yet-moralistic background. but talking to other people to see if some of my impressions checked, it came to my mind that it was a heavily directed video intended to attract left-leaning people to a conservative agenda. my bad.

I don't usually watch YouTube for news, but whenever I do, I like to watch Sean Foo's videos. I don't think he's a Marxist, but I like the quality of his videos. Unlike other news YouTubers he's somewhat smaller and more detailed in his uploads.

I'm asking if other users have watched his videos; what are your thoughts on his analysis of current events?

Do you have any YouTubers or videos you watch for news? I'd like to watch more ML YouTubers for news.

I have a couple I'd like to promote, but I don't want to intrude.

Basically one in which you can't be public about it due to whatever reasons - has to stay a secret. No need to go into detail if you don't want to. I myself have been in this situation for ~15 years now.

The English-speaking web has many different types of websites. For social media, there are link aggregators (Lemmy/Mbin/etc., reddit), microblog sites (Mastodon/Pleroma/etc., Xitter), forums like BBS boards, and more.

This post talks about Misskey and how it diverges from Western-made Fediverse culture. This reminded me of some other Japanese-style websites, such as textboards, chan imageboards and booru sites (booru imageboards are essentially a tag-based media archive, which similarly to chan boards have entered into the English-speaking internet but remain niche, mostly centered on art communities such as anime and furry fandoms).

What other styles of websites exist beyond the English-speaking internet? Does their design reflect a different culture? Are they better in some ways?

So I was volunteering for smth and was in a waiting room, the other three volunteers were friends (strangers to me but were there together). One of them ordered tea and I got coffee and she offered me some cookies she had. At this point she had once initiated conversation with me before but that's it. After that she did do so again. On my drive back I thought it might've been a conversation starter that I ignored completely. All I said was ok, yes or thank you to anything she said. I was perfectly kind, just not talkative.

I just wanna know tbh, I'm in a relationship anyways (not gonna tell her, is that a bad call?).

So what sign have you missed recently?

Edit: It appears she's just talkative af. She's cool and my gf met her and didn't think anything was off either. I'm just too cocky ig ๐Ÿ˜ญ
