Been there! Once I lost ~120 points in one sitting ๐คฆ I was bored and was playing without being really engaged in the game - something that used to happen frequently. I stopped that behaviour and since then been only playing only when I feel my brain is ready, rather than playing every day or week. It's been working quite well for me.

Yes that's exactly how I've been playing these days. I have a little daughter and I have little time to play late in the evening or in the early morning after not sleeping that much.
The problem is that it's like gambling... You lose some points and you just tell yourself "one more game just to get those points back"... and bam! 6 more are gone :D
True, points shouldn't be that important but still... One gets attached to them! :D
As a kid I wasn't too bad at chess but stopped playing. Recently, i.e. some decades later, I created a lichess account and due to some successful tactics and a bit of luck I won my first three games and my (provisional) rating shot up to around 1900 and I was quite surprised and happy.
Afterwards I had the expected losing streak taking me down almost 500 points in only a handful of games...
All is well though, I'm studying a bit and am steadily climbing and should reach 1600 soon.
no points, but this reminds me of being in Curacao in late 2006 at Spanish Water on a sailboat. There was a popular bar and I would take my chess set in and look for a game. This one fellow offered to play and crushed me in about ten moves. We played again - same. That weekend we played some more and he handily won every game - I said he should play in tournaments and he laughed and said he did! A Master. As long as I'd buy beers, he was pleased to sit there and beat me all day long!
