I believe it was a proposed UI for mobile reddit that they didn't stick with.
And it's still more functional than the app just from a 10 second look

I had to check this out and found the categories under the hamburger menu. Anyone else find it funny that r/teenagers is showing as a community under Animals and Pets?
For me that UI style kept appearing for me while signed out. The dedicated subdomain is news to me.
Edit: It is a read-only experience. If you try to reply or vote, you'll be asked to sign in even if you are already.
Hmm I didn't have to log in and I'm able to see everything and reply. I just upvoted a few things while on it. Maybe it only works for a subset of users?
