(Tatanka Yotanka; in English, Sitting Bull; Grand River., 1834 - Fort Yates, id., 1890) Hunkpapa Lakota leader. As a young man he was part of the akicita (secret society) Brave Hearts, and gained fame for his deeds, which made him one of the most important Lakota leaders, strong defender of the ancient customs during the struggle of his people against American colonialism.

Sitting Bull formed cross-tribal alliances in his efforts to resist the process of colonization. Sitting Bull also steadfastly refused to become dependent on aid from the U.S. government.

On June 25th, 1876, Colonel Custer and his forces were wiped out at the battle of Little Big Horn. Sitting Bull did not take part in the battle, but acted as a kind of spiritual leader to those who did, performing the Sun Dance, in which he fasted and sacrificed over 100 pieces of flesh from his arms, a week prior.

In response, the U.S. government sent thousands more soldiers to the area, forcing many of the Lakota to surrender over the next year. Sitting Bull refused to surrender, and in May 1877, he led his band north to Wood Mountain, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan). He remained there until 1881, when he and most of his band returned to U.S. territory and surrendered to U.S. forces.

In 1890, due to fears that Sitting Bull would use his influence to support the Ghost Dance movement (a movement of indigenous resistance), Indian Service agent James McLaughlin ordered his arrest. Early in the morning of December 15th, 39 police officers and four volunteers approached Sitting Bull's house. The camp awakened and men began to converge at the scene.

When Sitting Bull refused to comply, the police used force on him, enraging members of the village. Catch-the-Bear, a Lakota, shouldered his rifle and shot one of the Indian agents, who reacted by firing his revolver into the chest of Sitting Bull, killing him.

In 1953, his Lakota family exhumed what were believed to be his remains, reburying them near Mobridge, South Dakota, near his birthplace.

Is it safe to use expired makeup? I bought some last year in an attempt to learn how to put it on but then my addled brain forgot about it and I just remembered today. It’s all either unopened or opened and used once

Nick Kroll is accusing George Santos of stealing his camp voice from his girl character in Big Mouth. And to this I ask: that's homophobic right? Like not to defend George Santos, but a hetero guy saying he invented sounding camp and that it's a girl thing is pretty fucking homophobic isn't it?

trying to cut down on your vice of choice w/o the means to address the root cause/motive for that vice (which may not even be in your control if the root cause is our larger social structures) fucking sucks ass. oh wow cool i have all the same bad feelings but don't have drinking to make me care less about them. neat. this seems like a good use of my energy. this is genuinely improving my life. πŸ™„

The fact that the French had literally no reason to be at the Mahdian Crusade, achieved nothing, learned no lessons from the experience and just did it for the vibes is amazing.

Like it's not AS funny as the Norwegian crusaders deciding to do a bit of reconquisting because they were in the area anyway, but it's up there.

Making my own bot that detects Twitter and Reddit links, we'll be using AI to determine if screenshots came from either site, and if so then the bot doxxes you.

Ok so I started the new God of War Valhalla free dlc and I have to say the design of this is beat for beat exactly the same as the 'Forgotten Saga' free dlc for Assassin's Creed Valhalla lmao. I mean theyre both supposed to be rogue-lites, but come on how come the two biggest AAA games based on Norse Mythology went in the same direction with their free post-game dlc? The poetry is very much rhyming here.

GoW valhalla is pretty fun though, ill give it that. It definitely has the advantage of having way better gameplay than AC valhalla.

Trying to come up with a name for the giant robots in a story I'm writing, the best I've got so far is "Mobile Gear" but I gotta be able to do better than that

edit: "Power Maille", ""Nonwing" (when listed alongside "fixed wing" and "rotary wing"), Null Wings? Null Maille? Zero Maille? Zero Wing?

The funny thing about modern Doctor Who is that it's like a decades long posting war between two mega-fans locked in bitter rivalry, only the medium it's happening in is through the actual officially licensed show. Like, on the one hand it is, like any show, the culmination of the work of everyone involved -- a massive undertaking bigger than any one actor or writer or makeup artist or lighting expert.

....buuuut also a lot of it seems to be Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies using their access to have the Doctor voice criticisms of one another's episodes. I'm sure that's a really reductive way to see it and there's an internal behind-the-scenes story I'm missing, but that really seems to be what's happening. Neil Patrick Harris proclaiming "That's alright then!" is stuck in my head
