I love how it looks. I’ve been trying to figured out what the background is, though.

Me: I can’t place that background.

My brain: It’s Montana.

Me: What?

My brain: What?

Meant to add, if it’s what I think it is, the actual geological feature is the at the Vasquez Rocks in California.

That's Vasquez Rocks which has been used multiple times on Star Trek, most notably as the planet where Kirk fought the Gorn (TOS: Arena), Vulcan (Star Trek IV, Star Trek 2009) and Mintaka (TNG: Who Watches the Watchers)

Memory Alpha has a complete list: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Vasquez_Rocks#Appearances_in_Star_Trek

Yes indeed. On top of that, the image itself is a screengrab from a Star Trek Online episode in which they replicated the location.

Never looked until I saw the title, and recognized it right away! Most recently it appeared in Picard Season 1, as well.

Ya'll are awesome. Thank you! Now I'm humming some TOS fight music. Excellent.

The old Lafarge quarry/pit in Dundas Ontario, west of Toronto is human-made, and not a natural formation like Vasquez Rocks.

As it’s at the bottom of the Niagara escarpment, it does even so cut through some interesting geological formations, including an ancient reef.

It seems on its way to becoming an equally recurrent location for other worlds in the new shows. Discovery has used in several seasons season - MU rebel camp, Talos IV, although it did look quite different in winter with Carl the Guardian of Forever.

That is fascinating. I'm going to rewatch those episodes to take closer look at the background. Thanks for this information.
