It's absurd lol my job was complaining they can't find anyone to work, yet they're offering $16/hr for machinists that would need to drive an hour just to get here... It's a joke

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn I'm a Machinist with only mediocre experience and even I don't get out of bed for less than $28. That shit's skilled labor even if a bunch of yuppie MBA's don't think it takes any skill.

I'm not even a machinist, I kinda wish I took that route. I came in as the lead assembler figuring I could prove my worth and "move up" into something better. Instead I became essential and am stuck lol

Thing is, you're not essential. If you left the company would move on. Maybe you should look elsewhere.

Someone I know that's retired now (must be nice) said their government pension went up 6% last year because it follows inflation / cost of living. Ain't nobody getting 6% salary raises in this economy, most are lucky if they get any raise at all, which really counts as a pay cut if food and rent keep going up

Sounds like you need a new job

Hmm, do I take the $16/hr that's 1 hour away or the $17/hr that's 90 minutes away...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Seriously... I just look at indeed and want to strangle someone... How are like 85% of all jobs on there posting salaries that are barely good enough for a random store cashier...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Now you know why that’s all they’re offering

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You get paid for the hour of traffic tho, right?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nope lol it's just how far you'd have to be to be able to afford to even live here. Long island is stupid expensive. I need to move, but I'm "uneducated" so I'm pretty much worthless lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That's fucked up

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago

Mmm, I'm sure a pizza party will make up for them not being able to pay rent

What's in the box?

A cat, of course. Why else would boxes exist, if not for cats?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or maybe not. It's unknowable, and absurd.

Hey! My cats may be unknowable but they're not..on second thought, good point 😄

Erwin Schrödinger wants to know your location.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

He can know my location, or he can know my speed, but he can’t know both.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

His cat should step up on the game. 50% alive, 50% dead? That's for noobs. Pros can be in more than one place at the moment: inside the box, and on ~~her human's bed~~ her human-sized bed, and on the desk (dropping stuff on the floor) and 30% circling human legs so they trip.

Does not work very well. Raising pat only works for about 6 to 8 months. Then you need another raise. So to stay truly happy and productive, more elements need to be introduced to the equation.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is true. No realistic pay raise can compensate for a toxic work environment. At some point, most people will value their mental health over high pay.

In my last place of work we called it the “golden handcuffs” Money was great, work was terrible. In the end I took a pay cut to get out, best decision I ever made - back on the same salary and much happier within 8 months
