Me too! As sad as I am to watch reddit implode I'm actually quite excited to watch Lemmy grow!
I'm actually happy with reddit imploding. It changed a lot. I don't know how to put it, other than reddit became quite antagonized. It seemed like any thread could turn into people fighting or defending themselves. Say someone makes a helpful comment explaining a complex topic in layperson terms and another user adds to it, the initial commenter will then explain why they didn't explain that additional material as a defense. Reddit didn't used to be like that. It was understood that the comment was an addition, not a correction or attack. Other areas that started getting crappy was if someone shared something they did and there was any possible way to point out how it was not the perfect response to a situation, people would point it out and criticize OP instead of understanding that we are all doing our best and sometimes aren't perfect. It got oddly toxic...now that I write it out, it felt like people became righteous and would argue over anything like they do in political FB posts, except the argument could be about the most mundane insignificant matter.
This is so true. Commenters have become so aggressive on reddit and I can only assume it's a result of reddit's growing popularity over the last couple years. Users are treating it like Facebook or YouTube where antagonism is not only accepted but often times rewarded.
Hey, I'm a newbie as well. So happy to be here and here's to creating and being a part of a nice new community together!
Just found out about Lemmy and joined as well. Goodbye reddit! Hopefully the platform will grow thanks to the reddit diaspora.
I hope so. I mean I like Reddit but now what they turned into.
It's so disappointing. To think of how different Reddit was a decade ago. Makes me a bit sad, lol.
Since you're new, check out kbin. With the magic of the fediverse, it talks to Lemmy without a problem (I'm currently commenting from there) and has a few more features as well.
Part of the fun of the fediverse is trying all the different options and seeing what fits. You could even join Friendica (FB equivalent) and interact here if for some reason that made more sense to you. Options!!
It's pretty nice so far, just having to retrain my brain as RIF was my Reddit experience.
I was a RIF user also until I just purged and deleted my reddit accounts. Jerboa on Android is pretty similar to RIF. You might want to give it a try.
I'll look into it. Presumably it'll have the same fate.
You're welcome! Enjoy!
I'm glad you're buddies with @[email protected] that means this place is going to be grand!
Yeah Stux and I will soon meet in person to discuss the road ahead.
I absolutely adore Stux. And you're not to shabby yourself!
Thanks!
