Once again, Gen X is ignored/forgotten.

We had better things to do than watch TV. We were all being beaten and molested by relatives.

Who chased us around with rolling pins trying to bake us into pies

Also the silent generation, since Tom & Jerry came out in 1940.

They can speak up for themselves!

Gen X skipped, again. As usual.

As a fellow gen-xer...whatever

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We had Eek the Cat. Superior in every way!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Certainly had a metal intro.

Aaaaaahhh!

I made the mistake of watching the new Tom and Jerry. Let's just say, I'd advise you forget it even exists. There is no new Tom and Jerry.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

...I didn't know there was a new one.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

Please continue doing so

As long as a copyright makes money, there'll always be reboots.

100% boomer humor. The jokes are so dated, they literally changed the housekeepers voice to sound less racist than the original version.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The best jokes are the ones that don't need the voice though

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's just slapstick humor, something all cartoons back then had.

We know Tom and Jerry because it holds up and is funny now. Look at the other cartoons and see the quality difference. They are unfunny by today's standards and probably not great when they were released.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah there was a lot of racism, at least in the beginning. e.g.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wow I thought Jerry dressed up in blackface was the shocking part, then it showed the actual islanders… they didnt even look human 😨

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We must’ve watched different shows then.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

There are literally two versions of the OG cartoons.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because as we all know, you can identify racists by the sound of their voice.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

No, the voice was a racist depiction of a black housekeeper. Read up on it, or find the old versions.

Humor based on pain will always be timeless.

Based disclaimer

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Entirely rejected by GenX

Tom and Jerry have changed quite a bit over the years.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Humor never changes. Only the setting.
