how does the story go with the gunshot and the dead lion and the guy with the umbrella? if it is basically impossible for Israel's notorious "intelligence" to miss this, and it directly benefits israel's push for more territory and new weapons, then maaaaaybe just maybe israeli defense DIDN'T miss the attack...

They wouldn't have a reason to declare war if the attack was stopped.
Who says it did? Maybe they just thought all these dead civilians was acceptable. Give them a justification. Not that they've ever needed one before.
That's an awfully cynical take.
Considering their prime minister is about to lose power and really doesn't want to... might not be so far fetched. But all this is hypothesis and no one will really know for sure.
