Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?

I've been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:

Jerboa Error Message

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

Thanks!

Switched to liftoff and continue enjoying fediverse.

But I'm not on beehaw.

I'm on Beehaw and can confirm that Liftoff is already miles ahead of Jerboa.

Thanks for the recommendation. Have just installed and connected back to Beehaw.

Liftoff is great! Thanks for commenting about it. I was really frustrated with Jerboa for not even allowing me to log in to Beehaw, and Connect's really bad interface that makes it hard to read anything.

@pztrn
Wow... It's awesome 😎, thank you..

Switched to listoff which also didn't work for some reason, then to connect. I also tried thunder, which works as well.

Liftoff is working for me and even let's me seemlessly browse my beehaw and sh.itjust.works acct. If I'm on a beehaw post (like this) is automatically let's me comment under my account here.

Really nice for when you are part of multiple communities.

A major benefit of liftoff to me is that it takes me to linked communities in app, instead of in browser like Jerboa. Makes it easier to subscribe to new communities that people share in comments

I switched to Liftoff from Jerboa, and am enjoying the Liftoff experience thus far. Works with Beehaw just fine.

Yup Jerboa became very unstable so I switched to Connect for Lemmy. Smooth ride now. :)

Glad you're enjoying Connect!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'm enjoying it, too. The only thing that annoys me is how hard/hidden it is to subscribe to communities.

When I'm seeing an interesting community under top of interesting content from a community I might be interested in, it's such a chore to find a subscribe button.

Yep, I'm using wefwef.app now, which is also very nice. Still have Jerboa installed for when it'll be compatible with beehaw again.

Deleting storage and cache (both) worked for me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yes thanks that worked!

Jerboa started crashing for me around the time they did an update that required a newer lemmy version. I've been using Liftoff and that's working pretty well so far. I'm trying to stay open to different apps because they're all pretty new and none that I've tried have been exactly what I'm looking for yet.

As @[email protected] mentioned, the progressive web app works really well. To use it, from any major browser on your phone, open up the options menu and click "install app" or "add to phone." It'll add an "app" to your phone which is actually a slimmed down version of your browser with the address bar and menus and whatnot removed.

Haven't had any issues with crashing on Jerboa 0.0.34 on Android 13

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yes, same here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

After updating to the latest version I can't sort my feed in any way, it just directs the feed back to the home instance's feed and sorts by active. Trying out liftoff in the meantime.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Worked fine until yesterday evening. This morning (i.e. now) it instantly crashes

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

it's been crashing ever since that version error message started appearing. I have since uninstalled it and am just accessing beehaw using my mobile browser. It's actually pretty good. Sure I know there are other apps in development but I would like them to mature a bit more before I try to get into them, especially considering my buggy experience with jerboa.

Yes, Jerboa crashes instantly, feddit.de Front Page is constantly refreshing (web) , Connect won't show any comments, wefwef cannot block communities from showing in my timeline

Great timing, now that many of us are coming from Reddit...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep. Every update breaks something new, and they never fix the old issues. I've now switched over to Liftoff, until Sync becomes available. From that point onward I won't be needing anything else.

0.36 was shit but 0.37 is actually fine now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

0.36 worked fine for me, 0.37 doesn't even start. Immediate crash on open.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The latest version of Jerboa is crashing on instances that haven't updated to v0.18

This will likely be fixed but there's many alternatives now anyway.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Jerboa: what version? Server: what version?

Latest Jerboa is 0.37-alpha. Latest server: 0.18.1 (?)

Servers running 0.17 (and below) don't play nicely with Jerboa 0.36 and later.

Jerboa 0.36 had a lot of problems, that 0.37 fixed.

I'm running Jerboa 0.37 and finding it great.

But if you don't like it, try connect, liftoff to thunder or another. I haven't kept track of all the new apps.

The web interface works well to.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I just switched to thunder, and so far its working much better.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It stopped crashing for me but I can't login because of server version mismatch. I'm using web browser for now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

that's happened to me as well. I'm now posting from connect for the first time and adjusting to the interface.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The most recent jerboa version doesn't work with lemmy version 17 anymore (which beehaw is on). I had the error and crash happen too. You could download a previous version off their github and it should work with v17 instances (but probably not v18).

But I'd recommend liftoff, it was recently added to the play store and it's actively being worked on! It's the app I use and I've been enjoying it so far.

Did they HAVE to go with that post for the Liftoff screenshots? 😂

Edit: They even used it inside the app as a preview on the Post Style prefs! It's very much deliberate! 😂

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

OMG, just noticed 🤣🤣🤣.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Hello from Liftoff! Seems to work well so far
