Oof. I've been in the ER a couple times recently due to hypertension spikes. Some scary shit, yeah. Meds now adjusted, yadda-yadda, and hopefully things work out.

In the meantime, still trying to get some posts out there to keep the sublemmy alive. Unfortunately, numbers are rather sharply down the past couple weeks. Usually this is simply due to the vagaries of timestamps and theme of material, but I'm not sure it's just that, anymore.

Oh well, a few more weeks will hopefully tell the tale, for ze better or ze wurst.

I guess, truth be told, that we could ALL use some help with our projects(!)

Thanks for the suggestion, I just did so. Welcome back btw!

Thank you !

[email protected]

I haven't looked at the numbers in a while. Activity went down a little, but games continue being posted and played every day. 413 MAU right now. Could be better, maybe I'll promote the community again to get some new players.

[email protected] has hit the over 1k mark and now has 1040k subscribers, and remains the most user-active community on lemm.ee

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

This is one if my favourite comms! You've really worked hard at it, there's always a thread to chat in and there's loads going on. Really appreciate it ☺️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

and remains the most user-active community on lemm.ee

Impressive, well done!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[email protected] seems to become the de facto movies community as the main poster on [email protected] isn't that active anymore.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Good to see you around again, you've been scarce lately and I used to see you everywhere. This is @[email protected] btw. Currently in between usernames and shopping instances.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I know it was a dark time without Blaze 😢

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Blaze rocks lol. Definitely one of the friendliest and most helpful people around here. Especially when you're still a noob.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Totes agree

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Appreciated!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Come on people, I'm sure all of you are doing fine when I'm away 😄

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Haha we're lost without you

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Oh nice, thanks for the heads up. How are you enjoying lemm.ee so far?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thinking of looking for another instance where I don't have to wait 4 weeks just to upload a profile pic lol. But otherwise it's interesting getting a more unfiltered look at Lemmy. And eye opening seeing downvotes again. People downvote the dumbest shit, like there's people around that haven't realised that there's a third option instead of upvoting or downvoting - just scrolling past and ignoring if you don't personally like it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

To be fair the 4 weeks thing is a one-time issue, once you're done with that Lemm.ee is pretty good. Good admins, and indeed nice to have a more unfiltered view

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Thought I'd just ask you here in this comment chain seeing as you're pretty extensively well traveled in the Fediverse lol. What other good options are there for instances that don't do a lot of de-federating (and give you the general 'Reddit' experience) but also aren't completely unmoderated? I don't want to end up somewhere that half of the Fediverse de-federates from for whatever reason. Is it just lemmy.world and lemm.ee?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You can use this list and sort by Active users to have an idea of the servers with the most users: https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list

Out of that list, https://lemmy.today/instances is know for having an empty blocked instances list, so they don't defederate anyone.

In the other direction, you can use a tool such as https://defed.xyz/check?name=lemm.ee&software=lemmy (https://defed.xyz/check?name=lemmy.today&software=lemmy) to see which instances defederate a certain instance.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, I guess I'll just try doing homework this time to find exactly what I'm looking for. An instance that just doesn't do any de-federating whatsoever is also kinda scary because I don't want CSAM and shit ending up in my feed. I also don't want to end up cut off from places like Blåhaj because of admins not taking action over certain things.

So I need something more like world or ee. But without any limits on image uploading either because I'd rather find an instance that can be both message board and image host than look for some third party image host platform to use that may or may not work nicely with various apps.

My problem is not reading properly. Because I was taken by surprise by the no downvotes thing when I signed up on Blåhaj and I was taken by surprise here on lemm.ee with the 4 week wait and 500kb limit on file uploads. So basically I just need to do my homework and read properly.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maybe https://lemmy.zip/ ?

They have good reputation, regular reports on [email protected], very short defederation list: https://lemmy.zip/instances

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I have always got good vibes from zip users and communities in the past. I see that one instance they de-federate from unfortunately is that hilariouschaos instance. One of the reasons I signed up here was to see the alt community there. That instance definitely gives me certain vibes though and it's a pity that there's a few communities on there of interest to me. But yeah, I'd like to find an instance that gets rid of illegal content and doesn't allow straight bigotry under the guise of 'free speech' but I'd also like to be able to decide for myself sometimes. And block users or communities myself if they disagree with my politics or lifestyle.

Thanks very much for the help here. The links you shared are definitely going to be useful in helping me find what I'm looking for. This instance that I'm on right now is almost perfect for me so far, apart from the image hosting limitations.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Mander.xyz is a good instance that federate all other instances while having good moderation, its dedicated to nature and science

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're welcome to make an account on crazypeople.online. The sidebar should tell you all you need to know. If it turns out it's not your thing you can always try another instance.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just took a look and it definitely seems like the kind of instance that I'm looking for. The only thing is, I've just recently come from another instance with downvotes disabled (Blahaj) and was wanting to get a look at Lemmy with all votes enabled. Honestly I wish that individual communities or instances could choose to have downvotes disabled without it effecting every other instance too. Sucks that it's an all or nothing kind of deal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

No worries mate. I hope you find the right space for you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Glad to hear! Hopefully in a few weeks you'll be all set!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

By the way, just realised that I'm an absolute idiot that was looking at the wrong list and that lemmy.zip is in fact federated with hilariouschaos. I'm honestly getting tired of being blind or doing dumb things, I promise I'm not normally a stupid person but it's like my brain isn't working properly these days.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hey @[email protected], I hope you don't mind me summoning you here. You're the one that inspired me to start looking around for a different instance so I want to ask, what's the deal with lazysoci.al? Was it missing something for you that you get out of lemmy.world? And does lemmy.world federate with hilariouschaos?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No problem mate! Lazysoci.al was just the random instance I picked when I joined [email protected] is a lazysocial instance so when I set up this account rather than CheeseToastie, I went for lazysoci.al. Lemmyworld I set up so I could access other instances but I cant remember which one. I just checked and I can access hilariouschaos stuff from both my lemmyworld and lazysoci.al accounts.

Hope that helps!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks! It definitely does help. I'm looking for the fabled perfect (for me) instance lol. Somewhere that's going to at least keep users protected from CSAM or other horrid things but that isn't going to also be deciding for their users when it comes to non illegal content.

Sounds like either world or ee are the answer. So I'll do a little more homework but probably end up signing up with world again.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Great good luck 👍

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah it's not too bad but pretty annoying. I'd rather just answer more complicated questions and wait 1 day for someone to confirm my account when signing up than this 4 week limit personally. Quick signup but then you're locked out of one of the most common functionalities around here for a month first.

But yeah, it's nice getting to see the underbelly of this place myself. Not as filthy as I expected lol. Also started using a new app, Summit, that goes beyond any other app I've tried so far. So I've been having fun tagging users and making multicommunities.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hello @[email protected], have you all every considered reducing the avatar upload timeframe to 2 weeks instead of 4?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

We'll get some more control over images when 1.0 comes, I will take a look at it again then, but in general the new user cooldown for image uploads has really significantly reduced the amount of image related abuse we have seen.

@[email protected] please understand, nobody on our admin team is getting paid to moderate disgusting images, they are volunteering to do it, and it takes a mental toll. Also, image hosting itself is not free. Our donations right now are barely breaking even with server costs. So realistically, our options are not "current situation vs fully unrestricted image uploads", they are "current situation vs completely burned out admin team and costs increasing beyond donations".

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Thank you for the answer!

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 days ago

We'll get some more control over images when 1.0 comes

Ah, so a Lemmy limitation once again. Kinda like how a trans community can't decide to disable downvotes without it being all or nothing. It would definitely make this a whole lot better if users could at least finish creating their profiles, even if they're unable to upload images elsewhere. There's always imgur but that doesn't work for profile pics. But somehow I'm not surprised that it's a platform limitation.

please understand

I definitely do and if I was rich, I would definitely be donating to causes like this regularly. I very much appreciate what you're providing for us here. But as an end user that's just looking for the perfect place to park and call my online home, I have to also consider my experience here and can't run on just idealism and good will. It's a pity about the images thing because this instance seems otherwise almost perfect for me. But I completely understand. And thank you for providing this space for people like me on the first place.

Some larger surges over the last couple weeks and things continue to trend positively. Quite happy with the growth and activity everywhere on the site. I'd like to see more local users but I'm sure that will come with time.

As a side note- @[email protected] it's nice to see you around again. I've been missing your TCG posts in our pokemon community lol. Hope all is well mate.
