Can't you just install TrueNAS on a synology?
I'm guessing this is a firmware thing. Ie, if you plug in an unapproved drive it simply won't appear to the OS.
No, others said they patched the Synology OS in software.
My point is that you buy Synology for the hardware. Just like a router or laptop or phone, wipe the OS as soon as it arrives and install the better FOSS OS.
Congratulations on the spineless, disgusting piece of shit who imposed this decision. I will look forward to burn my NAS and let them know my opinion, for fucking sure.
Well they've been a shit company for awhile. This just seals it for me. Garbage ass product anyways.
Hopefully the nas ive got holds up for a long time...
This is unfortunate. My first NAS was an ASUS and it sucked balls to the point I made the switch to Synology and was able to get everything I needed working. Storage, external view access, connection to my apps. IDK what ima do when I need to move NAS solutions.
my first NAS was a synology and it sucked so hard I moved to QNAP, which sucked less but still was bad, so I learned to just make and use my own mini server.
I still remember their support telling me to open the SSH port to the public internet for their support team to look at it. fucking clowns.
Well, at least they have put 2 links on their product page, to the Compatible Drives page, suggesting that other drives might not work.
For me, that only puts them in the "never buy" list and not in the "a crusade is coming" list.
I am very happy with my Terramaster running Truenas Scale.
Y'know, I was seriously contemplating a Synology for my first NAS this year.
Was.
