Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Funny to think back in the day WatchPeopleDie, jailbait and fiftyfifty was all the rage. Now Nintento charachters are banned

[–] [email protected] 3 points 29 minutes ago

Man.. I even remember being on watchpeopledie and that sub scarred me for life, to think we now get banned for upvoting sentences containing Luigi is insane.. Reddit has changed so much, can't even be mad at nazi's cause they're afraid it'll hurt Elon's little feelings..

I'll make the mandatory "Hi, I came here from Reddit" post that I'm guessing is mandatory on lemmy for threads dunking on the site? Might as well be my first post in the fediverse too to get that out of the way. Wish I had known about lemmy sooner tbh but better late than never.

Also if someone has the spare time for it, I'd love to get pointed towards whatever's commonly used for onboarding here. If there stuff I should be aware of and tools I should look into, what phone apps people use, that sorta stuff. I picked my host because I wanted something european but I'm now kinda eyeing the old layout option that world seems to have since I used to use the old layout on reddit too.

https://join-lemmy.org/ is a fantastic resource for onboarding. They even have a great list of apps with pictures of the interfaces for each: https://join-lemmy.org/apps

I'm on eternity its the fediverse successor to infinity.

I came because I discovered boost is now for Lemmy. Only wish Narwhal was still around.

Voyager is basically a spiritual successor to Apollo. So if you miss that from the API purge, then give it a try.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 29 minutes ago

Oh shit, I was wondering why I thought the app was familiar. Good to know!

You came at the right time. When I left during the API nightmare and removal of third party apps, Lemmy was like walking into a desert wasteland and praying it loaded up and you weren’t just standing there in the void.

When it did load, where sand should be in the wasteland, it was beans. Slimy, canned beans as far as the eye could see.

You’ve entered during the golden age if you ask me. I don’t even think about Reddit anymore.

I'm a big fan of Sync app. It was formerly a Reddit app. It doesn't get much updates but it's fully functional for my needs.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

If you are on Android, try Summit or Connect, they are both even better than Sync.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 34 minutes ago

And better dev support. I don't think the guy that's been running sync has done anything in like a year. Just copy/pasted the UX from reddit sync into lemmy sync.

I use Voyager for Lemmy on Android (it looks like Reddit-is-Fun), but unlike Reddit, Lemmy has no API restrictions, so you can use whatever you want, to get the design/layout that works for you best.

Enjoy your time here and take it easy!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 50 minutes ago

Yup, using Boost which used to be my go to app for Reddit on Android.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

For a phone app, I use boost. There are ads, but they are FAR less intrusive than most mainstream apps.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 55 minutes ago* (last edited 54 minutes ago)

And you can get rid of them for a reasonabley low one time payment. I can't even remember how much it was, I think in the ballpark of 10 €.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Connect for lemmy is a RIF-esque ui that I enjoy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Seconded for Connect - I started using it after the API induced exodus and haven't looked back since. I have no idea how it compares to other apps, but I have no complaints!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago

All the same words but from me

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago

WELCOME. It’s so much better here. Can’t help with onboarding but you’ll get used to it. Oh and I’d recommend you use voyager app for browsing if you don’t know already

According to Subreddit Drama:

We really are at the point where doing what the allies (US) did in WW2 is unacceptable content huh?

Mockery of history

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Well, the dumbass nazi just called a war veteran a "traitor" for agreeing that Ukrainian's shouldn't be exterminated by Russia. Really tells you what side he's on.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 hours ago

Well, you see, it's bad unless the government tells us it's good.
