He was great. I got to see him live once between 10-15 years ago before he passed. If you love stuff like this, check out basically everything from the same label company Daptone Records which is a very impressive lineup of artists featuring the same genre or stuff close to it. It was a sad time because we also lost Sharon Jones from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings a year prior to Charles. Both found success late in life and both created such great music that I will listen to for the rest of my life.
