The paper lanterns outside her window swayed in the breeze, casting dancing shadows over the garden where a woman sat, her face hidden behind a curtain of black hair. (sh.itjust.works)

When the lanterns blinked out, the woman in the shadows rose, and as she turned, Emma saw her own face staring back, grinning wide and empty.
