I had to buy a plane ticket which costed 80 $, and since I needed to do two super quick checks before buying it I obviously waited a month. Plane ticket is now 280 $. Cheers

One time I went basically the whole year planning to go to a big music festival in town with a friend, just to realize literally the fucking night before that I'd never actually bought my ticket (I was checking that I had everything ready to go for the next day). I then had to frantically go to grab one off StubHub for a several hundred-percent markup at like 3AM.

Then I get a call waking me up at 7 AM, from StubHub, saying that the ticket they sold me turned out to be invalid but that they'd get me another free of charge. Which was great and all but then I was completely unable to get back to sleep and had to go the whole day running on just 4 hours of shuteye.

My rule of thumb for concerts is always buy the tickets as soon as you get the plan. Usually the orice is never going anywhere but up, so as soon as you decide you want to go to a show or festival you have to just buy tickets and then figure the rest if it out as you can

This was for a music festival too, at least I immediately bought the ticket for that and for flying there, so that was quite cheaper

I know what that feels like. I regularly pay upto 2-4x for plane tickets, because I always put them to the last second.

Sending much love your way friend, hope your days get easier.

Plane tickets are so fucked right now it doesn’t even matter. I was looking at tickets to go to India next January for my wedding, and they are $2000-$3000 for a shitty 14 hour flight on a plane where nothing works. I say two to three thousand, as they went up that much within 15 minutes of me looking at different dates.

You probably already know this, but if you’re watching ticket prices, try to check from a different phone or laptop each time. As in, check with your phone one day, your computer the next week, and while you’re at work the week after. Something about ISP tracking or something means that prices can go up if the site knows you’re watching, but if you’re looking from a different location each time, to the website you look like a different person, so the price won’t inflate as quickly.

I have never found this to be true even though I typically do this anyway. Maybe it's just the sites I use.

Interesting. Ymmv, I guess

I found out that for me its often worth it to pay the extra for tickets that can be changed easily. It gives peace of mind and less stress because I know I can just jump right in and change them if I want. It goes not just for plane tickets but for many othe products as well. But it obviously only works if I remember to buy the ticket in the first place. That might require multiple calendar reminders and alarms on my phone.

Definitely a good suggestion, next time I'll remember that 20/30 extra $$ is less than 200

I try to anticipate my ADHD tax at this point lol. I bought a 20 pack of tape measures because I'm so tired of losing them

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

So that's why I have these buying habits. I usually buy extra of things, because I know I'll run out and need it at the last minute when I really need something. The medication only goes so far, doesn't fully cure it.

Thats one of the few things that can make me overcome my natural tendencies. I'll snipe those tickets out of pure spite. Fuck airlines.

$80 plane ticket? What is this, 1997?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Probably a really short flight or in a currency that is valuable? I'm having trouble finding a flight in the EU for a hundred dollars but I know some flights within Europe can be pretty cheap.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

Sure you can get them for that price to certain destinations if you book early enough. Provided that the airline doesn't bump you from the flight after having sold the same seat at $180.00.

In the US, frontier, spirit, allegiant just to name a few. Flights such as ATL to Orlando etc.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

My ADHD tax is currently $377 every month for Vyvanse.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

I narrowly avoided this recently by pure luck. When I went to change my flight times the tickets hadn't gone up by much.

I need something like a smart watch that just taps me on the wrist every 15 minutes and lets me easily add an icon to the screen as a visual reminder. Will probably destroy my focus as I just start doing random tasks every 15 minutes instead of what I want to do, but it is nice to imagine it would work.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Can you tell me what exactly you needed to check? I'm from Europe and plane tickets were always just one price and when I had them, I had them

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

It was just when/where to land when coming back, since I had to pick between 3 cities and a couple of available dates
