MODERATORS

Recently the site has become full of transphobic and conspiracy garbage, as well as a campaign for Ron DeSantis.

Their admin doesn't seem to give two shits about any of this he's just letting it happen without any intervention. Defederating them would benefit this community greatly.

I sent a DM to the admin yesterday. If they don't respond or address the issue, we will be defederating.

It's a shame it had to come to this, I liked rammy.site very stable and almost never goes out, why do bigots have to ruin everything for us...

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s their plan. Sort of like how they trash the comment sections of posts on Reddit until they get the post locked. They don’t want free speech used to talk about how they’re cowardly little shit examples of human beings.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yep they trash smaller instances until larger ones defederate them and all the users on them. I'm thankful I don't have many posts or comments on my account but it absolutely sucks that I'm going to need to find another probably less reliable server.

Any suggestions for good servers to use as my new home server? I can't really host one because I have potato internet in a mobile unit (don't believe what they say, Starlink is absolutely awful) and I also don't really want to buy a static IP. Just want a small instance with good uptime like rammy did but better moderation.

i mean

i picked blahaj as my main and have felt vindicated in that choice repeatedly

the admins moderation and federation stances are solid imo

and they know what theyre doing on the technical front too so i dont expect downtime to be a concern

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The admin of rammy could kick them out.

Damn and I was just thinking how great Lemmy is so far, it's like super early days of Reddit.

Actual conversations without the same tired jokes on every thread and way less angry conservatives.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, why do stupid Nazis always have to ruin everything anyway?

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You know even though this is my home instance I fully support you defederating from it, I'd rather move to another instance than than have these assholes posting transphobic bullshit be allowed to come and harass the wonderful people here on lemmy.blahaj.zone as they please.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah, Blahaj is an unabashed trans support space. My main instance is FMHY and that's a pretty hardcore free speech instance, so I'm not against free speech. But Blahaj just isn't a hardcore free speech space, there are simply other spaces people can get that. Our content simply isn't fit for those instances that don't want to moderate hate speech.

Plus having multiple accounts isn't even discouraged on the fediverse, many people have accounts just for Beehaw and will say as such, I have an account just for Blahaj and have no problem saying that. The good people from bad instances are more than welcome to make an account here, granted they follow the rules.

I agree! I don't want to move, I love it here!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My account is actually on Rammy.site, though after what has happened I'm definately going to be moving on, I heard lemm.ee is pretty good.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

lemm.ee is federated with exploding-heads and rammy.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No response from the admin. It's been done

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I've said it before and I'll say it again — y'all are awesome, and thank you for all the work you're doing with this instance!

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used to think they weren't that bad, that they just had some bad users coming there but I just checked back and yeah, they've really gone to shit. Definitely de-federate them, their admin either isn't available to do what he needs to do or doesn't care, we need to protect our communities and our people from the assholes on there.

Intolerance of the intolerant is the correct moral response.

Intolerance of the intolerant is the correct moral response.

Always. Tolerating intolerance only lets it spread even more.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

Yeah my instance did this yesterday 100%

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago

WTF is this instance anyway 😀 Say no to Nazis then The Forth Reich and Say no to groomers.

I would 100% advocate to defedarate

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Looked at that site and honestly nothing of value would be lost by defederating

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

if there isn’t an overlap in userbase then i don’t see a reason to defederate, and if we did defederate then i think there would be more of a risk of brigading or harassment than there already is now. might as well leave the beehive alone so nobody gets stung

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

thats not how the fediverse does things

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

how so? it seems like a handful of users are the issue on that instance, they’re clearly just looking for a place to spew hatred so when those users find out a instance largely made up of queer folk defederated with their instance don’t you think they’d be more likely to make an account on another instance and bring the hate here? i think unless the admin is supportive of that behavior it would make more sense to give them a chance to deal with that on their own before deciding to defederate

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

when those users find out a instance largely made up of queer folk defederated with their instance don’t you think they’d be more likely to make an account on another instance and bring the hate here?

I can't think why that would be the case. Bigots gonna bigot. I think they're likely to harass queer people because we exist, and anything that makes that harder (e.g. defederating instances that protect them) is good actually.

"Don't feed the trolls" never really worked, it just meant they continued to exist without opposition.

unless the admin is supportive of that behavior it would make more sense to give them a chance to deal with that on their own

I disagree. Harmful, bigoted content is already being posted there. Defederating now protects this community from being exposed to it.

If the admin is responsive and deals with the issue, we can always federate with them at that point.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

thats fair i definitely get your last point, think the rest is probably down to our personal experiences with trolls/bigots. appreciate you taking the time to reply

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

valid

thank you for the first civil and kind disagreement i have had on social media since

well

probably ever 💖

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I have seen some trolls from this instance on the transfem community.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What a fucking cowardly response.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

damn i get i was wrong but theres no need to throw around insults over it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So far as I could tell it was not an insult.

It was an accurate adjective.
