I honestly can't even imagine what kind of scumbag would take the time and effort to deliberately try to put people in harm's way by doing something like this.

A tubeless tire system stakeholder.

I really like this rather positive outlook.

I had the same exact thought as I was opening the comments, attempted murder is what that is

That's not "wire" that's barbed wire. Huge fucking difference.

Hey, that's my city! I'm sad to say that I'm not overly surprised. I don't know if it's an everywhere thing, but there's a vocal minority in Victoria that have a real stick up their ass about bike lanes.

there’s a vocal minority in Victoria that have a real stick up their ass about bike lanes.

What's their actual concern/problem? Bike lanes keep bikes out of car lanes and off sidewalks, and they make things safer for everyone while making roadways faster for motorists.

People refuse to understand any of the points that you've made.

Plus, bikes don't really create traffic jams the way that cars do, meaning that bike lanes look like they don't get as much use, so people just go, "look at that nearly empty lane I could be driving my car in all by myself." (They also fail to realize that that "empty" lane would sissy be filled with cars, so they'd just be sitting in traffic anyway.)

I could be wrong about this (it's the internet, I'm sure someone will correct me), but I think public perception of bike lanes in this city got kind of fucked because one of the previous city councils spent a ton of money without really explaining it properly and they were seemingly installing them on streets where they weren't connected/doing much (this has got a lot better now).

So now the whole thing is just one of those "let's blame this" kind of topics. Kind of like "we'd have better blahblah if they didn't waste all the money on bike lanes". Nimbyism is also really strong in this city.

Yeah idk why people are so in love with vehicles, especially in urban areas. Like I get needing a car in the interior or up north but like in the lower mainland and most of the south side of the island you can get anywhere with public transport and a bike, in Victoria and Vancouver it's actually faster than driving haha

Probably about the same level of scumbag that we dealt with last summer, who wasn't apprehended until the spring:

The criminal complaint alleges one man found three of the cords hung on the walking bridge over the Cannon Ball Path and Capital City Trail. The man fell off his bike after the first cord hit him in the neck.

27 News previously spoke to the biker, who had little time to react when he noticed the cord during his pre-dawn ride.

Madison police officers found the fourth cord. The complaint states an officer didn't see a cord when he checked around 1 a.m., but one was there when he returned around 4 a.m.

Just ridiculous all around.

There's a painted bike lane / bicycle gutter that passes through an industrial area in my city. The municipality does a great job at clearing the street of debris with street sweepers, shoving all the debris into the bike lane 🙃

Like a third of all the flats I've ever had are on that little patch of road that I don't even go through that often.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

This is probably why I'm totally fine with the weight penalty from using Schwalbe Marathon tires. We don't have a major nail problem where I ride, but loads of idiots who like to shatter glass bottles anywhere they please.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I had to switch to Gravelking with ProTite protection layer to stop the flats from similar stuff. My tires are full of holes and cuts if you look at them up close but so far nothing has gone through the protection layer.

I'd be stoked for more bike infrastructure in my area. Fewer methheads on their rusty deathtrap bicycles meandering across traffic. Although, the people that treat their riding lawnmowers as cars would likely use them too.

This kind of crap is dangerous on any road or path, regardless of whether it's for vehicles (including bikes) or people.

It's the same kind of people doing this as tying up strings between trees in forest paths (can literally kill someone) as tossing stones from highway overpasses. Absolutely deplorable.

Intentionally doing these kinds of things should automatically land someone in jail.

Damn, fasteners are expensive nowadays. I'll head down there and clean them up for free!
