Shortly after the ratGDO v2.5 was released I ordered one and a couple of days later I ordered a case from Etsy to go with it.
Two days later the Etsy seller messages me asking if have the v2.5 or v2.5i because the cases are different. WTF? There's already a new version?! I tell the seller to make it the v2.5i because that's probably what I'll get.
So last week I received a very nice red case from the Etsy Seller HighTower3D out of the North Carolina. Seriously, this thing is nice. The build quality is high, it has magnets in the bottom for mounting, comes with allen screws (and the allen wrench you need) and a couple of little zip ties.
So this week my ratGDO shows up and...it's v2.52i! A quick check of the website shows that there's now a v2.53 and that makes four revisions in the last month!
You can't make this stuff up so all I can do is laugh...and give away the v2.5i case that I spent $26 on and doesn't fit the ratGDO version I ended up with.
I have no use for this case so I'm giving it away to someone who can; make sure you have a v2.5i though because this call will NOT fit any other version.
If you are in the United States and can use this case then leave a reply below. ๐
How is the v2.52i?
I had some time to play with it and I'm underwhelmed. I'm not sure how I overlooked this before ordering but if you have a Security 1.0 system like I do then you MUST use MQTT. The ESPHome firmware isn't compatible with Sec 1.0 at all.
I've also managed to lock it up (device becomes unresponsive) three times while trying to configure it for MQTT. I can flash it just fine but there's something I'm missing with the MQTT setup which isn't surprising since it's all new. I've never had to use it before and have zero idea WTF I'm doing.
I'll get it going but right now I'm wondering if it's worth the effort.
Yikes, I haven't used MQTT what so ever yet. Willing to learn but I was really hoping to just connect it to WiFi and straight into home assistant without messing with a broker. I just hate that Chamberlain pulled what they did.
I got it setup with MQTT after about an hour of futzing but I still need to wire it to my GDO.
If you have a Sec 2.0 opener then you will probably be able to. Just be sure to check before you order.
Me too, although I never used MyQ. I already have a fully functional Z-Wave setup that I built myself before ratGDO existed but there was so much hype around this thing that I figured I'd get one and see what it was about.
