I've been trying to join [email protected] for a few days. Going to https://feddit.uk/c/[email protected] gives me a 404. Using the same URL on a couple other Lemmy instances (eg lemmy.world) seems to work. Is there an issue preventing new communities/magazines from federating properly to feddit.uk?

If you click the spy glass at the top right and search for the full url https://kbin.social/m/nintendoswitch. It may not look like it’s doing anything. Hit search again and then go back to the communities page and just search for Nintendo. The community should now show. It possibly won’t show any content yet if you are the first person from your instance to subscribe to it.

Thanks. That worked. Full URL 👍

No problem. It will be the same if you are trying to join a Lemmy community that’s hosted on another Lemmy instance that isn’t showing up in search.

Thanks. Am I right in thinking that the community won't be populated with posts until after the first person subscribes from my instance? So I'll never see historical posts, unless I go to kbin in this case?

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s how it works.
