Very glad I didn't get a kindle suddenly.

If anyone is in the market for an e-reader I can strongly recommend the Meebook m7.

Does it integrate with local libraries? How do you acquire content to read, is there a non kindle store available?

Answered my own question:

If you already have a favourite online retailer, you can install Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Scribe, Libby, Tolino, or third party apps such as Koreader or Moon+ Reader.

The follow up is how does using these compare to a kindle?

hinestly I haven't used a kindle since gen 2ish. But compared to the kobo it's about equal maybe slightly slower. You have to make sure to turn off animations in the 3rd party apps otherwise you can get some ghosting but that's a problem with all android based ereaders.
